20th Century Settings – Gail Williams

Comments found online: Gail Williams is a former member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the current professor of horn at Northwestern University. Ms. Williams is known for playing contemporary music. For those of you who think 20th Century Music is awful, this album will convert you. Ms. Williams’ playing is very lyrical, especially on Verne Reynolds beautiful Partita. Also apparent is her brilliant technique on Nelhybel’s awesome Scherzo Concertante. Incidentally, Wilder’s Suite is actually for Horn and Piano and not Tenor Saxophone and Strings as noted above. This album is a great album of contemporary music because the music it contains is very accessible, and fun to listen to.
