Eternity and a Day, Michika’s third recording on Summit Records, features 11 tracks, seven of which are original compositions, making it a work that delves even deeper into Michika’s personal musical expression. The title track, “Eternity and a Day,” reflects the realization that while an ordinary day may seem eternal, its fleeting nature reminds us to live each day deeply. This sentiment resonates throughout the entire album, conveying a message of living each day with light in our hearts and profound purpose.

Her collaborators, Steve Whipple (bass) and Adam Nussbaum (drums), beautifully embraced this concept, providing exceptional support through their performances. This album is STELLAR and allows listeners to share in these feelings and emotions.

Born on Japan’s main island, Michika grew up in the city of Mie and began to play the piano at the age of three.
Within the next three years Michika was composing and playing her own music. After studying classical composition at the Aichi Prefectual University of Fine Arts and Music, Michika studied with renowned Japanese pianist Colgen Suzuki and began working professionally at a wide variety of jazz clubs in and around Tokyo.

In 2000,Michika moved to the United States and began studying with Ron Carter and Geri Allen at City College of New York along with private lessons under the tutelage of Steve Kuhn. Michika got her Masters Degree at CCNY in 2003.

Since then, Michika has been playing at Manhattan’s most prestigious jazz clubs and making critically acclaimed, exceptional music…She is on the top of her craft – just LISTEN!
